A2 Hosting VS Blue Host In 2020

A2 Hosting started back in 2001 when CEO Bryan Muthig used his strong background and experience as a UNIX systems administrator to launch A2 Hosting… They’ve been independently owned ever since. While A2 Hosting was originally launched as a hobby, it was evident this side venture would grow into something more. And it has! From their roots in Ann Arbor, Michigan to hand picking the very best team members and data centers located around the globe.

Bluehost was founded in 2003 with one goal in mind: to create a better hosting company.
Bluehost has continually innovated new ways to deliver their mission: to empower people to fully harness the web. Based in Orem, Utah, they provide comprehensive tools to millions of users throughout the world so anyone, novice or pro, can get on the web and thrive with our web hosting packages.

A2 Hosting Cons

  • Uptime: They need to improve their uptime.
  • Upgrades: Upgrading to a high-priced plan will garner you no extra charge to migrate your account. And, if you decide to change data centers while migrating the account, your data center migration fee will be waived as well. However, changing to another data center without an upgrade will cost you $25 in fees.
  • Downgrades: If downgrading to a lower-priced hosting plan, you may be subject to a $25 downgrade charge.
  • On-demand backups paid separately: If you want to use their on-demand backup system to create your own backups, you’ll need to purchase their add-on.
  • Confusing checkout: Even if they’re not as pushy as other providers, their check out is loaded with add-ons that you most likely won’t need (e.g. paid SSL certificate).
  • 35 concurrent HTTP connections: All shared hosting plans seem to be limited to 35 concurrent HTTP connections to the server – this may not be enough.

Blue Host Cons

  • Confusing pricing: As cheap as $3.95 may sound good, but users often do not read the fine print to notice this is an introductory price based on a term of 36 months. You do have options to select 12 or 24-month plans, but those monthly prices are more.
  • No free automatic backups: While they do offer backups, the backups are considered a courtesy. This means you can’t depend on your data to be backed up daily – so no guarantees here. You must set up and run your own backup via the cPanel.
  • Renewal Price Increases: Like most hosting companies you’ll experience a price jump when it comes time to renew. Most hosting companies offer very low introductory rates to secure you as a customer, only to experience the “actual” rates when it comes time to renew.
  • Unlimited Hosting Is Limited: Another common hosting practice is selling unlimited hosting when in reality it’s actually quite limited. By “unlimited” hosting Bluehost means that they’ll do their best to provide all of those on unlimited hosting plans with the necessary resources to grow their sites, without experiencing a jump in pricing.
